Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Wireless Network Technician to join our team in the Virginia Beach. This is an onsite position.
Job Summary:
The candidate will support teams performing installs, providing internet connectivity to barges spread among area shipyards, from one or more antennas atop Portsmouth Naval Hospital or other appropriate locations. Connection is anticipated to be a 5GHz 802.11 link from the antenna to the barge receiver, providing an encrypted 100Mbps connection at the end point.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support team members and perform required wireless network equipment integration or installation of wireless network equipment, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and use of test equipment as required.
Knowledge of the basic fundamentals of AC/DC circuits
Technicians must install networks utilizing wiring and cable termination
Troubleshooting system failures and identifying roadblocks in the network
Provide support for Fleet Forces supported units associated with the transfer to and from temporary locations such as the Messing & Berthing Barges or a temporary mobile building (mobile trailer, CONEX, or local building)
As directed, provide the following or similar tasks: Run and terminate cable connections as directed. Patch internal connections as directed. Run internal cabling in overhead, along wall, through walls, from patch boxes, switches, workstations, and servers as directed. Support cabling removal and reroute if locations of TempLAN/Tagout are changed and/or trailers are relocated. Remove all cabling and cable support items once TempLAN/Tagout is Migrated back to Ship’s network
Analyzing operations and offering suggestions for improvement
Perform field validations of various watercraft and equipment
Perform work between customer sites, shore sites, and/or on ships
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in related field and 4 years of experience or equivalent education and years of experience in lieu of degree
Knowledge of basic fundamentals of AC/DC circuits as it pertains to the installation of wireless network electronic equipment
Familiar with Department of Defense (DoD) services at both Contiguous United States (CONUS) and Outside Contiguous United States (OCONUS) locations
Must have technical experience with AC/DC circuits
Must have experience with network connectors (RJ45s)
Ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS as needed up to 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
NAVSEA Certified in Fiber Optic Termination
Experience with the installation of electronic equipment to include soldering, cable dressing, cable tray, conduit, and building/repairing connectors
Experience with the installation of wireless network equipment
Able to read, interpret and execute blueprints, engineering drawings, diagrams, and other technical literature
Able to identify technical issues to develop engineered solutions to problems related with systems or equipment
Demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work as a member of a cohesive team
Ability to work individually and as part of a team, both internally and with external resources
Security Clearance:
Must be US Citizen and have an active Secret Security Clearance
Must be eligible to get a CAC card
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 50 Lbs
Climb and descend ladders
Must be able to balance, bend, carry, crouch, stretch and kneel
Must be able to push, pull, and reach
