MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Strategic Writer to join our team in Ft Belvoir, VA.  This is a hybrid position with onsite days as required.
 

The Strategic Writer serves as a vital communications expert within the Army CIO Headquarters. This position supports high-level messaging and executive communications, helping to translate technical strategy into compelling narratives for internal and external audiences. The writer will draft speeches, develop publications, and prepare talking points that reflect the vision, priorities, and initiatives of the Army CIO.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and edit speeches for Army CIO executives, tailored for diverse audiences such as Congress, military leaders, and industry.
  • Create strategic publications including articles, white papers, annual reports, and newsletters.
  • Draft and refine talking points for meetings, briefings, public engagements, and media interactions.
  • Support the CIO public affairs team in aligning content with Army messaging guidelines.
  • Transform complex IT and policy-related material into accessible, engaging language.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions and communications workshops.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Affairs, or a related discipline, plus 9 years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-level writing roles (e.g., speechwriter, communications officer, technical editor).
  • Professional writing certification or training in executive speechwriting.
  • Proven ability to support senior executives with discretion and professionalism.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Communications or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills across multiple formats (e.g., speeches, articles, memos), with a strategic understanding of tone, audience targeting, and message alignment.
  • Expertise in AP Style, Army style guides, and federal government writing standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism when engaging with senior leadership.
  • Experience in military or government communications environments; ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments and adapt to evolving communication needs.
     

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have a current/active TS clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.
     

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%. 
  • Must be able to communicate, converse, and exchange information with peers and senior personnel. 
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
