ManTech is a multi-billion-dollar public company that provides the innovation, adaptability, and critical thinking our government needs for success in health, science, defense, intelligence, law enforcement, and other fields. ManTech is seeking a Senior Biostatistician/Epidemiologist to support our epidemiologic research and operational policy support program focused on improving warfighter readiness, optimizing recruitment and retention, and informing medical policies. The position entails collaborating with a diverse team of epidemiologists, statisticians, physicians, data analysts, and military personnel to deliver knowledge products to multiple Department of Defense (DoD) stakeholders. This position is located at the Walter Reed Army of Research (WRAIR), Silver Spring, MD.
The team is currently working remotely but may return to on-site work at WRAIR, Silver Spring, Maryland. Candidates must live within reasonable commuting range to WRAIR or are willing to relocate.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead advanced statistical analyses and modeling of administrative and medical data. Statistical analyses can include, but are not limited to linear, logistic, Poisson, proportional hazards, and other time-to-event regression modeling and cost-benefit analysis
- Participate in design, plan, execute and validate large-scale epidemiological studies which measure short- and long-term impacts of policy changes, occupational exposures, and diseases/injuries on military service and disability discharge
- Design and plan methodologies to address project-specific needs, including study planning, literature reviews, sampling, and rigorous and comprehensive statistical analysis (overall descriptive, exploratory, and confirmatory)
- Collaborate with team members to identify relevant data sources, support the creation of analytic datasets, and rapidly deploy analytics in response to ad hoc requests for information
- Apply epidemiologic expertise and strong communication skills to interpret results, summarize technical approaches and results, and write various knowledge products, including annual reports, white papers, manuscripts, and briefings
- Train and mentor junior staff in SAS programming, study design, analysis, results interpretation, and development of knowledge products
- Serve as a critical subject matter expert to develop innovative strategies and solutions, and to support the program’s missions.
- Participate in research collaborations that may span multi-site, multi-agency, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to help advance targeted public health objectives
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD/equivalent in statistics with 5+ years of experience in the health/medical research, or MS in statistics with 10+ years of experience in health/medical research
- Thorough understanding of statistical modeling, including ability to identify potentially appropriate approaches for any given research need, and to select and rigorously justify the method ultimately chosen
- Expertise in programming using SAS software
- Ability to interpret and apply statistical techniques, summarize and explain methods and findings to non-statistician research team members, and assist and train junior staff
- Solid knowledge of and experience with the design and analysis of epidemiologic studies
- Strong understanding and application of public health, epidemiology, and research principles
- Strong analytic, critical thinking, and decision-making skills and ability to identify and solve issues independently
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills needed to keep research team informed of progress, changes in status of work, and communicate findings to stakeholders
- Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time
- Strong communicative, interpersonal, negotiation, consensus-building, and analytical skills with the ability to work successfully in cross functional teams in an organized, fast paced environment while meeting time sensitive deadlines is a must
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with developing predictive analytics and machine learning solutions to inform strategic decision-making
- Experience with creating innovative visualizations to enhance data insights
- Clinical operations exposure is valuable – including exposure to datasets from EHR/EMR systems and understanding and application of public health, epidemiology, and research principles.
- Prior service or thorough understanding of the U.S. military is a plus, particular experience with military health systems, data, or healthcare policies

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in stationary position for up to 50% of the time
- Must be able to move about inside the office or IT environment to access computer systems, modules; equipment and IT machinery
- Must be able to constantly operate computers and other IT environment systems such as IT machinery, modules, etc
- The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations
