ManTech is seeking a well-qualified software safety specialist to help support our current contract with the Marine Corps System Command.
ManTech is responsible for assisting our Government customer and ensure that material solutions developed or acquired by Marine Corps Systems Command are system engineered, integrated, interoperable, and certified to provide the warfighter with equipment required to accomplish their mission.
To do that, ManTech assists our customer conduct the detailed systems engineering analysis, establishes technical policies and guidance across the Command, and manage the technical investigation and distributed planning required to deliver world class Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) systems capabilities to the warfighter.
Job Duties:
Reviews, analyzes and prepares contractor, sub-contractor and customer software safety program documents, including risk assessment reports; preliminary hazard analyses, system software hazard analyses, tracking system and system inspection checklists; reviews and analyzes program development documentation for new and ongoing programs including software design criteria, test procedures, and trade-off studies; conducts independent and complex analyses to evaluate system design, accident risk factors and recommends major mitigation actions to prevent or correct software safety hazards; conducts special analyses as directed. Leverages specialized knowledge and expertise in embedded, real-time safety critical software, including applying scientific and engineering principles, criteria, and techniques to identify and assess a software's contribution to safety hazards, and inform the implementation of mitigations to reduce warfighter risk
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Analyze Equipment for software safety hazards and conduct risk assessments.
- Ensuring consistent compliance with all applicable software safety requirements during testing and fielding events.
- Investigate mishap, property damage and near miss incidents to engage in the series of events and gain an understanding of the causes to advance towards the effective actions to mitigate or eradicate the hazards.
- Provide recommendations regarding the areas of software system safety for acquisition areas of responsibility (e.g., safety releases, risk acceptances, regulatory guidance, etc.), and verify that DoD programs adhere to regulations and best practices such as DoDI 5000.02 and MIL-STD-882.
- Provide independent analysis of programmatic ESOH efforts, developing safety releases, ensuring ESOH efforts are integrated into overall systems engineering activities, supporting integrated logistics assessments, milestone, and fielding recommendations, providing software subject matter expert (SME) review and recommendations for acquisition program safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 7 years of experience with developing complex systems, including developing and debugging multi-threaded or real-time embedded software. Additional years of experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
- At least 5 years of experience in the following:
- Experience tracking and testing requirements to adhere to software safety processes and procedures.
- DoDI 5000.88, MIL-STD 882, and IEEE STD-1228 safety guidance and best practices.
- Experience with using software development environments and tools, including Eclipse, Microsoft Visual Studio, or Rational Software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with FPGAs, PLDs, or firmware development.
- Experience with operating systems and compiler technology.
Clearance Requirements: US Citizen is required. Ability to obtain / maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required.
