MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Network Engineer to join our team in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

This position supports the medical mission of the DoD and ensures that the highly complex and technical requirements related to the network infrastructure are addressed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Proactively define and establish minimum standards for network access to ensure optimal overall network performance.

  • Serve as a primary consultant to government staff and partners on LAN/WLAN/WAN design, implementation, deployment, and management. Develop, write, and implement network policies, procedures, and best practices for LAN/WLAN/WAN operations

  • Lead and collaborate with technical specialists and external organizations to quickly resolve complex network issues and ensure the network consistently supports the Military Health System (MHS) mission.

  • Resolve deep-level technical issues across all layers of the OSI model, focusing on network and routing protocols.

  • Utilize advanced network administration and diagnostic tools (e.g., Orion SolarWinds, ARMIS, Ansible).

  • Employ knowledge of Management Information Blocks (MIB) and MRTG to measure performance, plan capacity, and ensure high network availability with minimum downtime.

  • Enhance and maintain network security by managing the LAN/WLAN – WAN barrier systems to prevent unauthorized access.

  • Configure and manage critical security infrastructure, including network firewalls, VPN devices, and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 5+ years of related experience, OR completion of a technical/vocational program and 10+ years of related experience; experience within DoD Health Care Information Systems

  • Extensive experience with a wide range of networking protocols and technologies, including (but not limited to): Layer 2/3 Protocols: TCP/IP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, VRRP, RSTP. Common Services: DNS, DHCP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP. WAN Technologies: PPP, HDLC, V.35, RS-449.

  • Clear understanding of IEEE 802 communications and Internet standards (e.g., 802.1d,802.1q,802.1w,802.3,802.11, etc.).

  • Direct experience with synchronous and asynchronous communications and various network media: Ethernet (Fast, Gigabit), FDDI, and ATM.

  • Demonstrated experience in routed, switched, and shared LAN environments. Proficiency in maintaining environments that utilize current supported versions of Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, and OpenVMS. Routers, switches, and terminal servers. Various local and long-haul WAN connectivity solutions.

  • Familiarity with network diagnostic tools: Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), cable testers, and network sniffers.

  • Knowledge of EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications.

  • Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion SolarWinds; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Zero Trust Architectures and Methodologies

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must possess active Secret security clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
