ManTech seeks a Summer 2025 Public Outreach Specialist intern to support Department of Defense (DoD) environmental communication, stakeholder engagement, and public outreach.
All work is onsite in Solana Beach, CA.
Our Summer 2025 intern will assist the Director of Public Outreach by supporting public engagement requirements in support of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. The position may require minimal local travel.
The Intern will use professional verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively support the Project Managers and interact with other staff members. The intern is expected to complete all assigned tasks in a group and individual setting within tight deadlines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the development of public information and outreach materials. This includes key messages, talking points, FAQ’s, newsletters, fact sheets, news releases, media advisories, web content, scripts, videos, exhibits, speeches, brochures, briefing information, and other communication products.
- Coordinate logistics and participate in public meetings and events (local travel may be requested). Develop and coordinate the publication of public notices.
- Support the Public Outreach Director with program management tasks, monthly reporting, and schedule development/tracking.
- Support outreach strategy sessions, risk communication training, and other client meetings.
- Monitor news and other information streams to maintain strategic awareness of public interest in regard to DoD customer.
- Support updating website design and content.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a BA in Public Affairs, Communication, Journalism, Environmental Science or related discipline with a projected graduation date no earlier than December 2025
- Prior internship or academic experience developing public information and outreach materials including key messages, talking points, FAQ’s, fact sheets, news releases, media advisories, web content, scripts, videos, exhibits, speeches, brochures, briefing information and other communication products
- Proficiency in all aspects of the MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, etc)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in website content development
- Experience developing multimedia products with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat
Clearance Requirements:
- Individual must be a U.S. Citizen with an active US Security Clearance or eligible to obtain a US Security Clearance
