ManTech seeks an Overnight Media Journalist to conduct open-source research and analysis for a high-profile government customer in Washington, DC. This is a remote position.
The selected individual will review a large volume of information across all news media formats (print, online, television, radio, and social media). This person will need to identify key themes in coverage and encapsulate information into easily-consumed bullets, reports, and trend analyses to aid senior officials in their day-to-day decision-making.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintain a schedule that covers roughly 11 PM to 7 AM, Monday through Friday. At least one weekend per month
Utilize open-source research tools to capture, review, analyze, and interpret traditional and social media coverage, as it relates to a large and complex organization
Continually update search strings and key word searches across all research platforms to ensure all relevant content is captured
Track daily developments including Congressional hearings and other public events for potential compilations and analyses
Monitor and identify short and long-term trends as it relates to the client’s issues of interest and communicate in written products and client emails
Prepare news update products, briefings and executive summaries on select national security topics
Interface with the client virtually on their needs, changing requirements and new topics of interest
Ability become available within 48 hours’ notice to meet with the client in person in the DC area (on occasion)
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree required, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, International Relations or a related major
2+ years of news gathering and analysis experience
Experience using Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, TVEyes, Meltwater, Cision, Sprinklr or another social analytics tool
Experience and knowledge of current national security and or foreign policy news topics
Experience objectively analyzing reporting and news trends
Exceptional writing and editing skills
Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a portfolio of published articles
Clearance Requirements:
US Citizenship required and an active DoD Secret security clearance
Physical Requirements:
The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
