ManTech seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Mass Spectrometry Scientist to join our team in Sunol, CA. This is an onsite position.
Mass Spectrometry Engineer / Scientist
The activities of the Mass Spectrometry (MS) group include chemical and elemental analyses on a production basis, maintenance of several mass spectrometers and ancillary equipment, development of new or improved MS analysis techniques, and quality assurance of analytical data. The successful candidate will be the lead member of the ICP-MS group responsible for instrument performance, quality control, maintenance, calibration, and operation.
Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
Perform analyses of customer supplied samples, instrument calibration and maintenance.
Perform data interpretation and quality control.
Assist with ISO 17025 Quality Management System.
Advance ICP-MS techniques: devise or modify techniques and procedures to address new analytical requirements.
Interface with customers and collaborating laboratories.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in engineering or a related physical science (e.g., chemistry, materials science, physics, etc.) or equivalent. 8 years of experience might substitute for a Bachelor's, and 3 years for a Master's.
2 + years of relevant laboratory experience in ICP-MS and data analysis.
Extensive experience operating and maintaining mass spectrometers and vacuum systems.
Hands-on experience using isotope-ratio mass spectrometry to solve problems in materials science, nuclear energy, or geochemistry.
Established safe laboratory skills and aptitude for detail, including accurate record keeping.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in statistical methods of data evaluation and quality control.
Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems and develop new procedures and techniques.
Positive, professional interaction with customers, and presentations of work.
Familiarity with analytical instrument control computer hardware and software.
Competence in vacuum technology and electronics.
Clearance Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
Frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
