Description & Requirements

ManTech is recruiting a highly talented Manufacturing Reuse / Refurbishment Verification (MARRV) Project Engineer with skills and background related to launch vehicle production, refurbishment and reuse in rocket avionics, propulsion, structures and mechanisms. ManTech is helping the US Space Force (USSF) redefine the future of National Security Space Launch (NSSL) launch as the Space Force brings new entrant Launch Service Providers such as SpaceX and new launch vehicles such as United Launch Alliance’s (ULA’s) Vulcan into the Space Force NSS portfolio. Experienced and energetic candidates are needed to join our world-class team in Hawthorne, CA.

This position supports the US Space Force, fleet surveillance and critical missions support for SpaceX Falcon family launch vehicles used for NSSL missions. This position supports the USSF/Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC), Assured Access to Space (AATS) Falcon Division (AALF) executing the NSSL Program ensuring Falcon family launch vehicles meet requirements for NSS satellite mission launch services. This Project Engineer will be a key member of the Manufacturing Reuse/Refurbishment Verification (MARRV) Team and support Space Force assessments of SpaceX Falcon vehicle design, production, and vehicle space flight worthiness for NSSL missions. This is a position which targets the manufacturing full cycle operation aspects, process compliance and supports a broad spectrum of aerospace disciplines.

General Responsibilities:

  • Interface with a multi-disciplined team consisting of multiple Contractors, Vendors, FFRDC, and Space Force team members.

  • Interface with various team members at various levels of all organizations involved and be able to execute successfully in a fast-paced environment.

  • Perform all MARRV tasking with a high level of engineering competency and minimal supervision.

  • As a valued member of the MARRV team you will be expected to have deep knowledge in launch vehicle avionics, propulsion systems, or structures (composites or laminates).

  • Ability to develop and report assessments and those evaluation results to senior program managers, and the Space Force customer in a competent and timely manner.

  • Successfully work with the launch service provider (LSP) senior representatives when assessing to contract requirements and provided all recommended corrective actions to customer for LSP adoption.

  • Must be able to develop and implement product or process assessment plans which, upon completion, determines the health of those processes, compliance with requirements and LSP command media, and/or the product’s flight worthiness.

  • Examine product design and its implementation to manufacturing processes assessing/evaluating the manufacturing baseline for qualification, capability, process control and maturity.

  • Experienced in trend analysis with highly executable skillset in excel and metric generation.

  • Understanding in, and application of, NDE and NDT specifications during the manufacturing process of flight materials or major assemblies; including laminates, major propulsion, or avionic assemblies.  

  • Assess documentation for proper configuration management and change control.

  • Assess LSP manufacturing capacity, production readiness, and vendor/supplier control requirements.

  • Perform technical and engineering data management, such as data mining and reporting.

  • Occasional CONUS travel may be required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering preferable. A Bachelor's Degree in other STEM fields may also be considered.

  • US Citizenship required.

  • ​Minimum of 8 years as a Manufacturing, Quality, Avionics, or Structures, engineer, technical program management or other related areas with at least 3 years of aerospace quality or manufacturing engineering experience

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.  Clearance is not required in order to start.

  • Proficient in using Confluence to include establishing, maintaining, and publishing new pages/reports and interfacing with Jira and Microsoft products.

  • Strong background and experience in Aerospace and Launch Vehicles.

  • Able to work in Hawthorne, CA or El Segundo, CA locations during work week on a regular basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working at Space & Missile Systems Center (SMC), now Space Systems Command (SSC), or other USG agencies.

  • Familiarity with Falcon family launch vehicles, processing and operations.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability preparing and giving written and verbal presentations and reports to senior engineers and management.

  • Demonstrated independence, initiative and dedicated proactive problem solving.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the ability to work cohesively with team members and other teams as needed.

  • Sound judgment, effective decision-making, successful collaboration with multiple agencies and personnel.

  • Actively adopts new learning techniques and is proactive in using new tool technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams during design, test, and evolution.

  • Demonstrated competency with MS Office products, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and collaborative software products such as MS SharePoint-type databases and Information Systems databases.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.

  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.

  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.


The projected compensation range for this position is $93,300.00-$155,200.00.
