MANTECH seeks a dedicated Junior Field Engineer to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Underway Replenishment (UNREP) Division’s maintenance efforts for Military Sealift Command (MSC) platforms. This position is on-site, in Port Hueneme, CA.

As a Junior Field Engineer, you will assist with maintaining and troubleshooting UNREP equipment on US Naval Ships (USNS), operational support and maintenance at the UNREP Test Site in Port Hueneme, CA, and apply your engineering skills to provide feedback to the UNREP engineering branch on system performance/requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on UNREP equipment onboard USNS platforms during maintenance availabilities and at the UNREP Test Site

  • Travel internationally to complete UNREP maintenance for extended periods; trip duration can last more than 3 months, with trips totaling 50% of work year

  • Provide system performance feedback to C62 Engineering branch for evaluation

  • Assist with the overhaul of UNREP equipment such as the Navy Standard Transmission at the UNREP Test Site

  • Collaborate with senior engineers and ship managers to organize and complete maintenance tasks for UNREP systems

  • Assist with the preparation and planning of future UNREP equipment maintenance events

  • Complete detailed reports documenting ship visits, maintenance actions, and equipment support provided

  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership, co-workers, and customers to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth maintenance processes

  • Use wiring lists, schematics, blueprints, and written/verbal instructions to route, tag, test, and terminate shipboard cables

  • Follow all technical manuals and safety procedures for safe equipment overhaul and operability testing

  • Perform other duties as assigned related to ship maintenance and operations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited university

  • 6+ months of relevant experience including professional roles, internships, military service with technical duties, or substantial academic projects applying engineering principles, ideally within the Naval Surface Warfare enterprise

  • Ability to complete UNREP-related maintenance training within the first 12 months of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Shipyard and NAVSEA installation requirements and supporting documentation

  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting schematics, wiring lists, and technical manuals

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work professionally with employees, clients, and management

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance prior to starting this position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs, planks, or alleyways and work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (computers, printers, etc.).

  • Capability to go onboard ships and work in an industrial and operational environment.

  • Ability to climb ladders and go through scuttles onboard vessels.

  • Occasional movement around the office to access files and equipment.


The projected compensation range for this position is $40,900.00-$67,300.00.
