ManTech seeks a driven and collaborative Backend Developer to join our team in Columbia, MD.
In this role, you will support the development and deployment of backend services for secure, mission-driven applications. Your expertise in backend technologies, DevOps practices, and cybersecurity compliance will directly contribute to enhancing system reliability, performance, and authorization in a secure enterprise setting. You will play a vital part in enabling enterprise infrastructure capabilities for a global workforce through the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) organization—responsible for MPO’s foundational Enterprise Information Technology (EIT). Collaborating with customers, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and vendors, you will help advance EIT capabilities across Data Center & Compute Services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Build and maintain backend service components in a fast-paced development environment
Help maintain system inventories and documentation across the lifecycle to support compliance
Integrate service mesh technologies like Istio to manage traffic flow and security
Utilize Kafka for data streaming and event-driven architecture
Use Flux, Kubectl, and Kustomize to implement GitOps-based Kubernetes deployments
Leverage Docker for containerization and Maven for build automation
Collaborate with teams using Jira and Confluence for requirements, tracking, and documentation
Conduct development and analysis in Linux environments using Python and IntelliJ IDEA (IDE)
Participate in Secure the Enterprise (STE) and Secure the Network (STN) activities
Review Xacta notices and complete SEAR audit log records
Address POAMs (Plan of Action and Milestones) related to IAVA findings
Minimum Qualifications:
You will bring a strong foundation in backend development and system compliance to succeed in this role:
Bachelor’s degree with twelve (12) years of technical experience
OR Associate’s degree with fifteen (15) years of technical experience
OR High School Diploma/GED with twenty (20) years of technical experience
Preferred Qualifications:
The following experience will help you stand out:
Experience managing service meshes and Kubernetes clusters with Istio and Rancher
Proficiency in Redis, Kafka, Docker, Maven, and GitOps workflows using Flux
Familiarity with Kubectl, Kustomize, and Linux-based development
Experience using Jira, Confluence, and IntelliJ IDEA
Python scripting skills, including notebook-based data analysis
Familiarity with Gatekeeper, Xacta, SEAR, LatteArt, STE/STN activities, and POAM management
Clearance Requirements:
Must have a current/active TS/SCI with Polygraph
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, including delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
